Having students produce products or content to demonstrate learning compentency has been employed successfullly for years in face-to-face and online classrooms. With the growing ease of accesss to and familiarity with the web tools of wikis, blogs, and podcasts, faculty have a multitude of means to create oppoutunities for their students to produce unique works based on course materials.
For online facutly who are seeking novel ways to have more interaction or "hands-on" teaching experiences in the virtual world, creating and facilitating these types of projects may fill this desire. With their complement of practical and academic knowledge, faculty have an ideal position to serve as facilitator and guide to the novice or challenger/motivator to the more experienced of students.
