Pedagogical Use of Emerging Web 2.0 Technologies: Using Wikis, Blogs, and Podcasting with a Purpose

Learning Objects building blocks wiki, blog, and podcasting tools were used for specific purposes in two different literature courses.  Results of the success of this organizational style are presented.

 

 

Building a Story: Ideas for Creating Presence, Place, and Engagement in the Online Course

Text remains a primary medium for constructing and conveying presence and persona in online courses. We propose applying a course design methodology based on the elements of fiction writing to enhance instructor presence, scaffolding, interaction, and sense of place.

Distance education faculty benefit from exposure to online pedagogy and immersion in online coursework.  This presentation outlines a support philosophy and several easily replicable programs targeting distance education faculty members. Specific programs in this faculty development system explore: 1) online course design, 2) online pedagogy, and 3) course management.
