Manage Tools

Why?

Blackboard offers many tools to you and your students. Tools such as the calendar and tasks, allow you to plot out due-dates and suggest task deadlines for your students. You can remove the tools you are not planning on using, or that you don’t think your students need.

Implications for Teaching and Learning.

Simple is best. If there are tools that you do not intend for students to use in your course, disable them. If students can't see the tools, they will not be able to use them. More importantly, the students will have no option to submit incorrectly because they confused the tools. Enable only those tools you will be using in the course or that you believe will be useful to students.

Setting it Up.

Turning tools on and off in your course.

  1. Control Panel > Manage Tools (from Course Options pane)
  2. Tool Availability
  3. In the column labeled "Available", check or uncheck specific tools for this course.
  4. Click Submit
