Specific and Descriptive Criteria for Student Participation
Students should know, early in the course, how they will be evaluated on their participation. Providing clear and precise explanation about participation requirements helps students understand the connection between participation and grading.
Provide description about how the students' participation in discussions will be assessed. If you intend to evaluate postings on quality then define all issues related to quality. If you require a specific number of postings per week, list this for students.
Provide rubrics or lists of criteria for assessment so students clearly understand the requirements.
