Specific and Descriptive Criteria for Assessment 

 of Student Work


Students deserve to know how they will be evaluated on their work. Clear descriptions of the individual elements comprising a grade help to demystify the assessment process.

 

If rubrics or other assessment aids are used, provide these to the students with explanation of their intended use. Rubrics can be very useful to define criteria and establish indicators of quality. Another way to assist students is to create lists or tables of assignment elements with associated point values to help students understand the importance of each element to the assignment.
